Established in 1992, the Energy Saving Trust (EST) is a social enterprise with a charitable Foundation. EST has significant experience in managing sustainable energy related programmes providing advice, support, technical consultancy and grants for individuals, communities, industry sectors, local authorities, housing associations, academia, business and government. We manage major contracts and projects for UK Government departments, the Scottish Government, the Welsh Assembly Government, the EU and the private sector. EST is a leading organisation involved in Eco-labelling and Eco-Design. Our vast experience in product policy legislation, product performance requirements, testing requirements, energy use and market surveillance and testing has enabled us to successfully deliver Eco-Labelling and Eco-Design programmes both in the UK and Internationally.
In the UK, the EST provides product standard setting, product verification and product listings for appliances and consumer electronics, working with manufacturers, retailers and trade associations to accelerate market transformation through informed consumer decision making. We have delivered in-store retailer labelling inspections and UKAS Accredited product conformity testing programmes since 2004 under the Energy Saving Trust’s “Recommended” voluntary product certification scheme for domestic energy saving products and delivered Green Deal (UK Government’s flagship policy) accreditation for installers. Internationally we have developed and delivered product certification and testing schemes: Marketwatch, ComplianTV and PremiumLight. We have dealt with energy efficiency regulations in North America, Asia Pacific, Brazil and Australia. We have provided consultancy on the development of eco-labelling and market surveillance in Armenia, Ukraine and Turkey – where we worked with the United Nations Development Programme to establish energy efficiency appliance policy and a robust market surveillance regime.
